Sometimes all the variables are perfect, and this is one such occasion. For, one month before the harvest, a blast of sunshine lent the grapes maturity, and it was this factor alone that helped catapult the 1996 vintage into an echelon that few champagnes are capable of entering.

Opening fabulously with a nose of praline and dried fruits, a background of dense peat and iodine follows. In the mouth, power is key, and with a veracity which mingles to create a taste invasion.
