Tucked away in the Côte de Blancs is one of the most keenly observed vineyards in the World. Owned and operated by Diebolt Vallois, it is yet another example of what happens when prime techniques combine with rich soils to create the kind of Champagne found here and only here.
Not far from Epernay, another Champagne location which exudes charm with its fascinating cultural references, the House of Diebolt-Vallois possesses vineyards which bear all the highly unique signatures you would expect. The slopes face east and the land is tucked beneath a forest that affords a delicate micro-climate to happen, as it has done since the beginning. It is this atmosphere – one which also keeps the temperature in check – and the calcareous soil elements found in the soil which breath life into the grapes that are born here. As a result, it's a Grand Cru terroir where Chardonnay dominates with powerful assertion and clean, crisp flavours.
And if you didn't already know, the Champagne here – sourced from 10 hectares – is never far from the eye of a perfectionist. That man is Jacques Diebolt, of course, and it is thanks to his attention to the finest elements that the Blanc de Blancs formed here are thought by a great deal of people to be the best available anywhere in the World.
